Week 1: Who are you? Who will you be?

To be totally honest, I had gone into this class not knowing what to expect. In all honestly, this is true for the entire sport media program. When I saw the words "sport media" in sequence in regards to a school program, I knew I had to do whatever it took to see what it was all about. The impressions I had on this class in particular were scarce, but I assumed it had to be about working with digital mediums. While it scared me a little when I realized I have little experience in this field, it excited me that I'll be a blank canvas and hopefully I'll soak up all the information possible.

It is very important that people who work in the world of media know how the digital media affects them. It's not only for basic knowledge that everyone will eventually be working with, but so that those people can appreciate how much hard work happens behind the scenes. I'm certain I will learn very quickly that those digital media specialists work very hard at their craft and are very good at what they do. I'm most excited to work in the sports specific courses that are offered later in the program. Being a sports nut (along with most students in the program I anticipate), it's easy to be excited for that. But I am more curious to find out about the Sound Production course. Sound is sometimes an overlooked area in media that can be taken for granted, and I'm excited to see how much work actually goes into it.

My goal is simple; enjoy my first year in this program. I gave up quite a bit leaving my home, and I certainly want it to be worth it. If I go home in April disappointed with what transpired over the year, that will be a shame. I see these first semester course challenging me the most. Each of the courses in this term like nothing I've ever done. I sense that I may be overwhelmed with the new information. With that being said, that was the point of the change of scenery for me.

I hope I can acheive some experience in the digital world. Like I previously stated, I have almost none, and it is somewhat intimidating. I don't have any experience with many general programs that are commonly used on the computer. I think I'll be able to know what all those programs are by the end of the course, and how to complete the basics on them. I certainly hope so anyways!
